During the same period Jacqueline wrote and published her "beach
poems," other poetry and creative nonfiction in Hilton Head's Islander magazine. Everyone in the couple's Midwest family loved their carefree two-week vacation retreats on the island within a few steps of the gentle beach and Atlantic surf.
That happened before Jacqueline published two soft cover novels for Jove under a pen name, novels which were translated into five other languages and enjoyed sales of more than 100,000 copies worldwide. By Surf and By Stream is a collection of her shorter works and reveals more about the author than anything else she has produced. Before publication three years ago, the nature-loving couple worked together creating new material, new drawings, revising and refining the anthology, which they designed for 2-minute escapes and retreats.
In By Surf and By Steam, you find nature poems, water and beach poems, love poems, nonfiction brief short stories about summers with Grandma and Grandpa on the farm, and narrative poems and reflections about outdoor family fun on coasts and ocean beaches, and floating, canoeing and camping on Ozark streams and rivers not far from her home. Jacqui tells 1930s stories, 1940s stories and early day courtship stories. She includes her reflections on relationships with friends and family, the spiritual path each person can discover, and the healing power and contentment she finds outdoors by water in the heart of the natural world of birds, animals, trees, flowers and all growing things.
