For Writers

" We dream before we do. All creative people dream first..."

"...the writer's mind does work differently from that of the person who doesn't come to understand himself. Learning to write is learning your own mind." Ken Atchity, "A Writer's Time, Making the Time to Write" Revised and Expanded, 1986, 1995, W.W. Norton and Company, Inc. New York, NY

All writers and aspiring writers need good advice, help and psychological support from other writers, and most of all they need the truth about the creative process, the business of writing and selling and the tumultuous changes which have occurred and continue to occur in print publishing, marketing, reading habits, e-publishing, TV, films, radio and stage drama.

"I have established this page to nourish my fellow writers and aspiring writers. I give talks and workshops especially for writers and also to the general public."

Jacqueline's poem Autumn Day on Elk River from By Surf and By Stream, appears in the just published Dec. 2009 Echoes of the Ozarks anthology, Volume V, from Ozarks Writers League and AWOC.COM Publishing, Denton, Texas. The earlier anthologies, Volume I and II published in Nov. 2006 and Dec. 2007 by AWOC.COM Publishing, Denton, TX, included her personal essay Migration Patterns and a poem Legendary Ozark Rivers. They continued further development of lines of thought begun as she was writing the book By Surf and By Stream.

"Everyone knows water is essential to life, but for me, water is symbolic of creative flow and inspiration. The living water that comes mysteriously. To be in the flow is to be alive and swept along by something outside ourselves, by the dynamic energy of creation itself.

I also give workshops for creative artists, writers, musicians and performers of all kinds about breaking through the fear of failure and censure into the freedom of creative flow." --Jacqueline Potter

"Poetry is a way of taking life by the throat."
Robert Frost, "The Figure a Poem Makes" Preface to "Collected Poems", (1939)
